Summary
You will learn where to look for appropriate fellowship or research funding, how to apply for specific instruments, and how to prepare a written application. You will also gain an understanding of how proposals are assessed by funders and hone your proposal writing skills through peer review.
Content
Do you know how to write a successful fellowship or research grant application? During this course you will learn where to look for appropriate fellowship or research funding opportunities, how to apply, and how to prepare a written application. Additionally you will take part in practice exercises providing insight into the writing and peer review processes.
Course objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify appropriate research and fellowship funding
- Describe the A-Z of the proposal submission process
- Recognize factors contributing to successful applications
- Apply basic writing rules for efficient and persuasive communication
- Appraise the quality of grant proposals with standard evaluation criteria
Course outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will have:
- Written a complete fellowship or proof-of-concept application
- Gained practical experience in peer reviewing
Course structure
Each class will include a mini lecture and a peer reviewing exercise. This exercise - to be carried out in small groups - will be based on written assignments connected to the topics of the mini lectures.
