Summary

A foundational course on the science and practice of launching new ventures. The purpose is to study and experience the first stages of the entrepreneurial process: from the identification of promising opportunities to the development of a viable and innovative business concept.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the student must be able to:

  • Anticipate the risks and challenges of launching a new venture
  • Explore systematically market and technological opportunities
  • Assess / Evaluate confidently venture ideas, business plans and early-stage investment opportunities
  • Test the potential and feasibility of venture concepts and business plans
  • Present clearly and convincingly new ideas in front of a professional audience
  • Develop an "entrepreneurial mindset"

Assessment methods

The course follows a continuous assessment approach, which provides more opportunities for feedback and learning from peers, lecturers and experts, and distributes more evenly the workload. There are three main set of graded assignments:

New venture project (group assignment): 60%
Presentations of new venture ideas, business models and venture concepts

Peer-to-peer feedback (individual assignment): 20%
Feedback on other students' ideas and venture concepts

Essay on entrepreneurship (individual assignment): 20%
Personal reflections and learnings on entrepreneurship-related topic of interest
