Résumé
L'unité d'enseignement prendra la forme d'un travail choral de recherche sur les formes, les matériaux et les techniques de la culture constructive alpine. L'analyse bibliographique, le travail de terrain et le redessin du patrimoine bâti serviront à l'élaboration d'un atlas commun.
Contenu
Cette unité d¿enseignement constitue un module de recherche en études patrimoniales, dont les travaux donneront lieu à une publication, une exposition, et à une intégration à une plateforme dédiée au patrimoine vernaculaire suisse.
L'UE s'organise en trois temps qui structurent le travail commun autour de l'Atlas Alpinus. Le premier temps pose les fondements théoriques et méthodologiques de la notion de 'patrimoine' et de ses valeurs. Le concept d'architecture vernaculaire est interrogé comme champ disciplinaire transversal, à travers lequel se lisent des problématiques historiques et environnementales. Le passage du bâti vernaculaire au statut de patrimoine est analysé comme un processus historique long, impliquant des institutions et des disciplines multiples. Le contexte alpin est abordée à travers des exemples spécifiques qui feront état des transformations rapides et profondes du territoire. Le relevé est introduit comme outil fondamental de connaissance architecturale par le dessin, la photographie et les pratiques modernes de documentation du patrimoine vernaculaire telles que la photogrammétrie.
Le deuxième temps développe la pratique du terrain et du redessin critique. Les séances in situ alternent avec des cours thématiques sur la réflexivité du vernaculaire dans les discours de l'architecture moderne, sur la dimension immatérielle du patrimoine, savoir-faire, rituels, anthropologie de la maison et sur la question de l'altérité et du subalterne en contextes coloniaux. Ces thèmes sont abordés à travers des corpus historiographiques précis, afin de situer le patrimoine vernaculaire alpin dans une problématique disciplinaire plus large. Une discussion intermédiaire permet d'évaluer l'avancement des travaux de l'Atlas Alpinus.
Le troisième temps ouvre le cours à des intervenants extérieurs à l'académie et consacre les séances de travail à la mise en forme finale de l'atlas. Les thèmes abordés portent sur les transformations économiques et industrielles de la culture constructive vernaculaire et sur les pratiques contemporaines de transmission, de préservation et de conservation du patrimoine vernaculaire. Chaque étudiant consolide son hypothèse critique et finalise sa contribution à l'atlas collectif.
This teaching unit constitutes a research module in heritage studies, whose outputs will give rise to a publication, an exhibition, and integration into a platform dedicated to Swiss vernacular heritage.
The teaching unit is organised in three phases that structure the collective work around the Atlas Alpinus. The first phase establishes the theoretical and methodological foundations of the notion of "heritage" and its values. The concept of vernacular architecture is interrogated as a cross-disciplinary field through which historical and environmental questions can be read. The transformation of vernacular building into heritage is examined as a long historical process involving multiple institutions and disciplines. The Alpine context is approached through specific examples that will account for the rapid and profound transformations of the territory. Survey is introduced as a fundamental instrument of architectural knowledge, through drawing and photography, alongside modern practices of vernacular heritage documentation such as photogrammetry.
The second phase develops fieldwork and critical redrawing practice. On-site sessions alternate with thematic lectures on the reflexivity of the vernacular in modern architectural discourse, on the intangible dimension of heritage, know-how, rituals, the anthropology of the house ¿ and on the question of alterity and the subaltern in colonial contexts. These themes are approached through precise historiographical corpora, situating Alpine vernacular heritage within a broader disciplinary problematic. A mid-semester review assesses the progress of each contribution to the Atlas Alpinus.
The third phase opens the course to practitioners and scholars from outside the academy and dedicates working sessions to the final composition of the atlas. Topics address the economic and industrial transformations of vernacular building culture and contemporary practices of transmission, preservation, and conservation of vernacular heritage. Each student consolidates their critical hypothesis and finalises their contribution to the collective atlas.

Méthode d'enseignement
L'UE articule présentation thématiques, conférences d'invités extérieurs, séances de relevé et de redessin, et discussions à la table. Chaque étudiant choisit et développe un cas d'étude individuel un édifice ou ensemble vernaculaire situé dans l'arc alpin ou dans un territoire analogue qui constitue le fil conducteur du semestre. Ce choix doit être motivé par une curiosité disciplinaire et une question de recherche articulée. Des modules techniques de relevé, de prise de vue photographique et d'archivage documentaire outillent la démarche. La mise en forme graphique de l'atlas collectif final est elle-même traitée comme un acte d'interprétation critique : le protocole commun de représentation, défini en début de semestre, constitue un outil de classement, de comparaison et de médiation entre les cas étudiés.
The teaching unit combines thematic lectures, external guest conferences, survey and redrawing sessions, and collective table discussions. Each student selects and develops an individual case study a vernacular building or ensemble situated in the Alpine arc or an analogous territory, which serves as the guiding thread of the semester. This choice must be grounded in a disciplinary curiosity and a clearly articulated research question. Technical modules on survey, architectural photography, and documentary archiving provide the practical tools for the approach. The graphic composition of the final collective atlas is itself treated as an act of critical interpretation: the shared representation protocol, defined at the beginning of the semester, serves as an instrument of classification, comparison, and mediation between the cases under study.

L'objectif du semestre est de produire une contribution individuelle à l'Atlas Alpinus. Chaque dossier comprend : un plan de toiture redessiné (1:500), un plan typologique (1:100), une coupe, une axonométrie, des détails constructifs significatifs, et un exposé argumenté présentant l'hypothèse critique et la réflexion développée au fil du semestre. L'ensemble des livrables est intégré dans l'atlas collectif selon le protocole commun de mise en forme défini en début de semestre. Cet atlas donnera lieu à une publication, une exposition, et à une intégration à une plateforme dédiée au patrimoine vernculaire suisse.
The objective of the semester is to produce an individual contribution to the Atlas Alpinus. Each dossier comprises: a redrawn roof plan (1:500), a typological plan (1:100), a section, an axonometric drawing, significant constructive details, and an argued presentation of the critical hypothesis and the reflection developed throughout the semester. All deliverables are integrated into the collective atlas according to the shared formatting protocol defined at the beginning of the semester. The atlas will give rise to a publication, an exhibition, and integration into a platform dedicated to Swiss vernacular heritage.
Méthode d'évaluation
L'évaluation repose sur l'ensemble du travail produit au cours du semestre (contrôle continu) ainsi que sur les documents finaux soumis avant la période d'examen. Trois critères de pondération équivalente sont retenus : la pertinence et la rigueur de l'hypothèse critique ; la qualité technique et analytique du relevé et du redessin ; la cohérence de la figuration et de l'argumentation dans la contribution à l'Atlas Alpinus.
Assessment is based on the body of work produced during the semester (continuous evaluation) as well as on the final documents submitted before the exam period. Three criteria of equal weight are applied: the relevance and rigour of the critical hypothesis; the technical and analytical quality of the survey and redrawing; the coherence of the figuration and argumentation within the contribution to the Atlas Alpinus.

L'unité d'enseignement prévoit des visites du cas d'étude choisi et des impressions aux formats A3 ou A2 (selon les dimensions). Des frais de déplacement en train à l'intérieur de la Suisse ainsi que des frais d'impression sont donc à prévoir.
The course includes site visits to the selected case study by the student and prints in A3 or A2 formats (depending on the dimensions). Students should therefore expect to incur travel expenses for train travel within Switzerland as well as printing costs.
