Summary

This course introduces concepts, debates and issues of international migration, and through diverse migration patterns in Asia, examines how migration and global development are related.

In the spring semester, students will focus on implementing their research project proposal submitted in the first semester. Guidance on research development will be provided through workshops and group tutorials.

Required courses

Students must have taken the course "International Migration and Emerging Asia I" (HUM-500) in the fall semester.

Teaching methods

In the spring semester, students will focus on implementing their research project proposal submitted in the first semester. Guidance on research development will be provided through workshops and group tutorials.

During sessions in April and May, students will give a short presentation on their research progress.

Expected student activities

Mini fieldwork (e.g., interviews), research project report development

Assessment methods

1. A group report on migrant stories/ trajectories (2 pages) through conducting a mini fieldwork (e.g., interviews) (20%)

2. A group research report (15-20 pages) based on the project proposal developed in Semester 1 and possibly on data from the migrant stories/ trajectories report (80%)
