Only this year
Summary
This discussion-based class will focus on how storage systems have evolved over time. We will cover topics such as persistent memory, CXL, and disaggregated storage systems. At the end of the class, students will be required to write a report on the challenges they see in storage going forward.
Content
This class will focus on how storage systems have evolved over time. This will include both single-node and distributed storage systems. We will start by reading seminal papers such as the UNIX Fast File System. We will cover topics such as persistent memory, zoned block devices, CXL, and disaggregated storage systems. This will be a discussion-based class. At the end of the class, students will be required to write a report on the challenges they see in storage going forward.
The grading will be based on discussion in class and on the final report. This class will be a good fit for students doing (or planningto do) operating systems research.
Grading breakup:
- Participation in class: 50%
- Final report: 50%
