Summary
One-week intensive summer school on energy storage & demand at EPFL Valais (Sion) & Lausanne. 11 lectures by leading academics & industry experts on batteries, hydropower, thermal/chemical storage & grids, plus 5 lab visits, a Grande Dixence dam excursion & a poster session to present your research.
Content
The rapid electrification of mobility, heating, and industry together with a growing share of variable renewable energy makes energy storage a key enable for reliable, affordable, and low-carbon energy system. This summer school provides a coherent overview of storage technologies across timescales, from fast electrical storage supporting grid stability (seconds-minutes), to electrochemical solutions (minutes-hours), mechanical and hydro storage (hours-days), and finally long-duration/seasonal storage options (days-months) and their integration into future energy systems.
A one-week (31.08-04.09.2026) intensive summer school bringing together researchers and engineers from across Europe to explore the full landscape of modern energy storage from sub-second grid flexibility to seasonal alpine reserves.
Organized under the auspices of the EuroTech Universities Alliance, a strategic alliance of leading European universities of science and technology, committed to research excellence, innovation, and education.
Fees: CHF 100 for EuroTech Universities, plus CTU and TalTech / CHF 200 for other international universities
Note
Full attendance and passing the examination are required for ECTS.
