Summary
Learn how to assess, analyse, report and communicate the environmental impacts of companies, projects and products considering whole value chains, i.e. applying Life Cycle Impact Assessment. State-of-the-art standards, methodologies, databases and indicators will be considered.
Content
- Understand the interest and challenges of assessing products and services, companies, and value chains over their life cycle.
- Learn about the existing reporting standards, tools, databases and indicators. And which ones to use.
- Quantify the impacts and generate meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for a product/service or a company considering its supply chain.
- Develop a critical perspective on published environmental assessments.
The class will be a combination of:
- Theory lectures
- Case studies
- Practical exercises to train critical thinking and computation skills
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student must be able to:
- Assess / Evaluate the environmental impacts of companies, projects and products considering whole value chains
- Plan environmental studies including data collection and reporting
- Analyze existing studies from a critical perspective
Transversal skills
- Communicate effectively with professionals from other disciplines.
- Access and evaluate appropriate sources of information.
- Take responsibility for environmental impacts of her/ his actions and decisions.
Assessment methods
Grading will be based on 3 components:
- Individual quantitative assignment: 20%
- Class participation: 20%
- Group assignment (report and presentation): 60%
