The internship must take place in a host institution such as an engineering office, company, laboratory or public service. The activities typically targeted for civil engineering internships are: preliminary study, project study, special study, call for tenders, execution project, work management, field campaign, monitoring, etc.
Procedure: The internship must last at least 8 weeks. It is carried out between the end of the bachelor's cycle and the start of the master's project, i.e. in the 4th or 5th year of study. The internship student is monitored by a professor or MER from EPFL (EPFL manager) and by an internship supervisor in the company.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student must be able to:
- Apply appropriately scientific, technical and organizational knowledge
Transversal skills
- Set objectives and design an action plan to reach those objectives.
- Communicate effectively, being understood, including across different languages and cultures.
- Give feedback (critique) in an appropriate fashion.
- Evaluate one's own performance in the team, receive and respond appropriately to feedback.
- Respect the rules of the institution in which you are working.

Teaching methods
The internship is not credited for its own sake, but its successful completion constitutes an entry condition for the master's project (PDM).
