Summary

The course offers an overview on selected advanced photonics topics. It targets students with a broad photonics background or equivalent, who are willing to broaden their knowledge in the discipline. The course is given by lecturers from both EPFL and FEMTO-ST.

Content

This course will propose a comprehensive overview on selected advanced topics in Photonics. It gathers photonics experts from EPFL and FEMTO-ST in France. Each topic will be covered by two lecturers, one from EPFL and one from FEMTO-ST.

The topics covered are:

  • Ultrafast laser micro-/nano- manufacturing [François Courvoisier (FEMTO ST) / Yves Bellouard (EPFL)]
  • Fibers, integrated waveguides and nonlinear optics [Thibaut Sylvestre (FEMTO ST) / Camille Brès (EPFL)]
  • Optical Computing [Daniel Brunner (FEMTO ST) / Demetri Psaltis (EPFL)]
  • Nanophotonics [Thierry Grosjean (FEMTO ST) / Hatice Altug (EPFL)]
  • Waves [John Dudley (FEMTO ST) / Romain Fleury (EPFL)]

Examination takes place in the form of daily quiz after each lectures' day.

A networking event is organized for give students an opportunity to present their work and to interact with their peers as well as with the lecturers.

Note

The course will take place in Neuchâtel, at EPFL's microcity campus.
