Summary

The course aims at providing future civil engineers with a comprehensive view on soil slope stability. It addresses landslide types and mass movement classification; slope failure mechanisms and methods for slope stability analysis are discussed; remedial measures and risk analysis are presented.

- Infinite slope analysis

- Methods for circular and non-circular slip surface

- Seismic slope stability

- Coupled and un-coupled numerical analyses

- Characterization of the pore water pressures in slopes

- Drained and undrained conditions

- Delayed failure

- Rapid drawdown

- Unsaturated conditions

- Shear strength of soils in unsaturated conditions

- Progressive failure

- Measurement of displacements

- Location of the slip surface

- Measure of pore water pressures

- Slope geometry modification and loads

- Drainage systems

- Retaining structures
